Source Protection & Leak Awareness
Raw water is pumped directly to the treatment plant from a nearby borehole. This was the original source for the St. Cleran’s scheme. A backup supply is connected from the Lissalondoon borehole. The land in our catchment area is mainly beef and dairy farming and we have no industrial facilities.
The raw water is pumped directly to the treatment plant and onwards to a reservoir on site. The treatment plant is fully automated and is continuously monitored with an alarm system as part of the design. The treatment facility was designed to pump, treat, store and distribute 282 cubic meters per day. Currently our average daily usage is approximately 90 cubic meters daily.

The distribution network is divided into 12 zones each served by a logger connected to a bulk meter. Loggers are checked daily via an App that provides the information necessary to identify and respond to any leaks. If a problem is identified in an area, the Manager issues a text alert to customers in the zone in question. Continuous on-line monitoring of chlorine levels are also available and monitored on a daily basis via the same phone App.
We completed a comprehensive Zone of Contribution study in 2019.
