Blue Flag Water Quality Award
It was a particular honour for our water scheme to receive an award at the 2023 National Conference of Group Water Schemes. This was in the Safety Planning and Quality Assurance category. Our Manager had developed a range of procedures to guide good practice, and the award was in recognition particularly of the procedure regarding the flushing of the lines in a systematic way and the testing of samples as part of that process. The blue flag that now hangs proudly at our treatment plant was in recognition of this practice to monitor and enhance the water quality.
Geraldine, our Manager, was also invited to address the delegates at the Conference, where she spoke about the development of a Water Safety Plan. This was a wonderful presentation by her and a particular honour for KGWS.

A consistent supply of potable water is central to all of the operation of our co-op. All of the equipment in our pump house is of the highest quality and is specifically designed to identify any contaminants and purify or treat the raw from the borewell. Equipment is regularly replaced or upgraded as it ages.
Testing is undertaken by Glanua of raw water and treated water each month. In addition water testing is undertaken by agencies on behalf of the HSE. Samples for these tests can be taken from any house on the scheme. We have installed one chlorine monitor that can provide to a phone, a daily reading of the chlorine level. In addition samples are also taken from different houses and analysed by a hand-held monitor on a frequent basis.
